KDTime: Gone TOO Soon!

Image
Episode 95                                                                            In this episode, I take a trip down memory lane. Have you ever gotten so invested in a television show/series and you watch it consecutively every week or you binge watch the season because it was streamed in it's entirety? Well I have, I've been subject to many a show series where I've been sucked into the world they created and became invested in the show characters all for it to come to a screeching halt because the network decided to ax the show.  Every year tv show networks produce new shows that they think will be the next ER or Grey's Anatomy or Law & Order and SVU. Every year a tv show comes along that maybe a handful of people will enjoy and they watch cont...

KDTime: Top Ten Movies from 2013 with Jonah

Image
Episode 84 Jonah and I tackled movies from 2013 that we deemed were our top ten movies. On one hand these we didn't see every single movie from that year, but when we thought about the movies that came to light during we knew which ones stuck out to us 10 years later.  The year 2013 was a pivotal one in cinema, with a slew of groundbreaking films that continue to influence the industry today. From thought-provoking dramas to pulse-pounding blockbusters, the top ten movies of 2013 left an indelible mark on audiences and filmmakers alike. "Gravity" revolutionized the way filmmakers approached visual effects, immersing viewers in the vastness of space like never before. Meanwhile, "12 Years a Slave" tackled themes of race and identity with unflinching honesty, sparking important conversations about systemic injustice. Other notable films of 2013, such as "The Wolf of Wall Street" and "American Hustle," redefined the crime genre with their sharp...

KDTime: #ThingsKidsTodayCantDo

Image
Episode 73 In the ever-evolving world of technology and societal shifts, the capabilities and experiences of today's children differ significantly from those of previous generations. The advent of the digital age has brought about a multitude of changes, giving rise to a unique set of circumstances and challenges. Let's take a nostalgic journey and explore some of the #ThingsKidsTodayCantDo that were once commonplace for earlier generations. A few things listed; 1. Play Outside Until the Streetlights Come On: Once upon a time, the streetlights served as a universal signal for children to wrap up their outdoor play and head home. Nowadays, with the prevalence of smartphones and video games, the timeless tradition of playing outside until dusk is not as common as it used to be. 2. Use a Landline Telephone: The iconic rotary dial or even the push-button landline phone was a staple in every household. Kids from earlier generations had to master the art of dialing and had the shar...

KDTime: Battle of the Butlers (Geoffrey vs Niles)

Image
Episode 54 There are two that stand out to me as I’ve watched TV over the years and they are Geoffrey from Fresh Prince of bel air played by Joseph Marcell (1990) and Niles from the Nanny (1993) played by Daniel Davis. Which was more savage? Who gave the best advice? Just a couple of the questions we’ll use to compare the two. Here is the first round quotes from the show. Round 1: Snark/Savage When Will asked about a party  Will: “Yo, Are we having a party? We’re gonna get stupid right? Geoffrey: “For some of us, that will require very little effort indeed” When Carlton made a wrong assumption Carlton: Geoffrey, Will has been hypnotized! The great mentos made him think he’s four years old! G: Can he make me think I care? To Will “I’m so terribly sorry, Master William, there’s been a misunderstanding. Apparently, I gave you the impression that I really wanted to know. When G literally put bread on Carlton’s head C: "Geoffrey can you make me a sandwich" G: *places bread* ...

KDTime: Not so Nice Nursery

Image
Episode Thirty-Nine You grow up learning different songs and tunes because the people around sing them. It's kind how we learn everything, someone else teaches you or you find out on your own. Today makes things a lot easier to learn because you can practically be educated entirely from the internet or a tv show which could be dangerous or super helpful. In this case, I am talking about some beloved or not so beloved nursery rhymes that were sung a lot during our childhoods. We all legit had the same childhood which is still pretty weird but when you relate to others who you did not grow up with but instantly have a connection because of your past, history, up bringing it all feels like we grew up together in one house or area. Let me tell you though some of the nursery rhymes I talk about I wouldn't have thought twice about them as a kid. They were catchy, fun and thrilling. Once I learned some of their origins in high school I was shook. In this episode I’ll get into the 10 t...

KDTime: D.E.A.R.

Image
Y'all remember that song Read a Book by Lil Jon? It came out 14 years ago and anytime I think about reading I think about that song. The music video is hilarious and it did not make me want to read a book which isn't surprising! Because Lil Jon songs are catchy AF, if not all the songs are super catchy. But my point for bringing it up is simple! Drop Everything and Read! That was a big slogan when I was in school and it too did not make me want to read, but I did like reading. I didn't like people telling me to read or what to read a whole lot but I did it. I know there are millions of books and audiobooks to read and enjoy. I like reading about adventure, intrigue, story-telling and a little bit of drama and/or romance. Some books are easier to read then others. I'm saying I didn't always like reading the Encyclopedia, but I know that it was helpful when I had homework. It's actually crazy to me now that my mom had the entire series in our house and whenever ...

KDTime: Am I a 2000s Kid?

Image
"Oh, well imagine As I'm pacing the pews in a church corridor And I can't help but to hear No, I can't help but to hear an exchanging of words" If you could tell the name of this song by just these lyrics I know you are a 2000s kid. The 2000s was a wild time to be alive. Everyone brags about the 90s myself included, but the 2000s brought so many things including really great music. So much great music that I challenged myself to figure out song lyrics from certain 2000s hits. 2000-2010 where I spent my pre-teen to full teenage years. Most of the music was listened to on the radios and then slowly on YouTube and then on other internet websites. I experienced a lot in my teen years but one thing is for sure I got through it with music. Listening to lyrics that somehow seemed to express my exact feelings at the time. Songs like "Unwritten" by Natasha Bedingfield, "Crazy in Love" by Beyoncé, "How you Remind Me" by Nickelback, "Yeah...

KDTime: Squad Goals

Image
Twenty-Nine Leave a Voice Message and Get on the Show use the link 👇 https://anchor.fm/kdtime/message Squad up! Gang gang gang! Let me stop😂. A squad can best be described as a group, gang, or team and if you have several friends or people you hang out they are your squad. Your people, your posse, gang gang 😂. The people you like to keep in your inner circle have certain attributes and qualities to bring to the group. I have a tight knit circle that I love and they love me. I do my best to express my feelings and thoughts to them and we have a lot of fun.  Having any kind of friend group has it's advantages and disadvantages though because when you disagree with a least one person of the group and it isn't resolved it can cause big tensions. It's kind of funny how shows will have friends get over certain things quickly when in the real world that isn't always the case. Sometimes friends grow distant, but the ones who are meant to stay in your circle do and the ones w...

KDTheme: TV Theme Songs 2 Part Two

Image
Twenty Eight Be careful not to mess with the balance of things, because everything is not what it seems. This is the second half of TV Show Theme songs. The first half consisted of cartoons and sitcoms and this half consisted of dramas and kid shows. Dramas like Degrassi: Next Generation, Charmed (original), Shameless, Teen Wolf and more. Kid shows like Hannah Montana, Bob the Builder, All That, and more. These shows have shaped my childhood and adolescence. I enjoyed these shows greatly and most of them hooked me in with their theme or opening music along with the actors and actresses I saw from trailers.  The thing about TV is that if it’s not an instant hit and consistently great then even if you love a show, the network can cancel the show because it's not getting the traction that was promised or hoped for. It absolutely sucks when you get into a show and then it gets cancelled for in my opinion bad reasons. The most recent ones that I watched were LoveCraft Country, Grand Arm...

KDTime: TV Theme Songs 2

Episodes Twenty- Seven & Twenty-Eight  It was so nice I had to do it twice. Some people actually suggested these TV theme songs and others I wanted to include because they are dope. This is part two. This episode includes a short story of a vacation taken to Niagara Falls, Lake Placid, Vermont, and Massachusetts and nostalgia of good TV shows. Some of these shows just barely missed the first list in episode thirteen, but it was only so many I could fit so here we go again. This episode was so BIG that I had to split it in two. First half/Part One has the theme songs listed below and the second half/Part Two will be all about the drama and kid shows. Enjoy 👊 Similar to Kenan & Kel (from Kenan & Kel) Kenan: I'll need a microphone, a topic, and a platform and for you guys to meet me on Spotify. Kel: Awww Here it goes! Speaking of Spotify, this episode is available on there. Links are on the left :) Below lists the TV shows by cartoons, and sitcoms.  Cartoons: Batman ...

KDTime: Throwback Thursday One

Image
Episode Fourteen This episode is very clear from the start what it is going to be about. It's a Throwback Thursday where I take a trip down memory lane. My memory lane to be exact. Do you ever see something that comes back to mind and you feel like you have a vague memory of this thing but it was definitely around at some point in your life? If yes, then this episode is for you and if not, then this episode will educate you on some of the things that were introduced years ago. In this episode I talk about "things we didn't realize we'd do for the last time" and facebook memories. When I talk about things that we didn't realize we'd do for the last time I'm specifically talking about millennials such as myself. For example, when's the last time you used a newspaper to look up movie times? Now we can find pretty much everything and anything on our electronics including watching a movie before it's even released. Here's the link for the source...

KDTime: Tv Theme Songs

Episode Thirteen I think I've made it pretty clear over the several podcast episodes I have submitted that I am completely obsessed with Television and Movies. I did not focus my podcast on these things and in hindsight maybe I should have, but I really enjoy talking about tv and movies. Some of the best things about watching shows and movies is how the music relates exactly to what you are watching on the screen. For example, if something tense is about to happen you already know that the scene will be tense heavy, or the pretty obvious when you hear a sad song the scene will be a tearful one and etc. With all this being said, I decided to make this episode all about tv show theme songs. There is a part two coming because I couldn't fit every theme song in one episode. And possibly more parts because new tv shows are coming out all the time. But for this episode I talk about the biggest ones that most of everyone should know and if you don't know now you know.  Here is the...
