KDTime: West Indian Day Parade History

Episode 71 What is Labor Day? To some it’s a huge celebration with big trucks, big bands, loud music, good food, flags waving, people dancing, and lots of vibes. To others it’s a nice day off to grill up the good meat for a barbecue and to acknowledge the fact that the summer is almost over. And it's a day for the ones who literally just take the day to do nada because they work too much. In America labor day is a celebrated holiday on the first Monday of September every year. Some people work depending on what their job is and others galavant in the streets from dusk till dusk.   What’s interesting is that workers fought to create this day because they felt that there needed to be a day to celebrate and take off from all the hard work being done during the year. One day out of 365 to let the American people know that their work was and is appreciated. One day to recognize the contributions many workers made for America’s strength, prosperity and well-being. In the late 1800s...

KDTime: That's Expensive

Image
Episode 61 When I was growing up a bag of chips cost 25 cents, a bag of sunflower seeds was 25 cents, a drink was 50 cents and gum was 5 or 10 cents. A sandwich was maybe $3 dollars. I was able to go to the store with $5 and was able to get a large bag of "junk" food because it was so easy. If I ever came into a store with $20 I felt like a Queen among peasants. It was like I was rich and could do anything. These prices were are facing in this day and age are NOT the same. It is absolutely wild to me that $5 is like chump change. You can feel so broke with $20 in your pocket. Walking around with $100 was incredibly rare so I never really did that but still it doesn't feel like much nowadays. Even though it is a lot of money. It just doesn't feel that way anymore. I don't think I could fathom the amount of brain power it would take to restore order in the American economy but I feel like someone should do something. It shouldn't cost and arm and a leg to LIVE. ...

KDTime: Get Your Comfy On

Episode 59 What’s important about blankets? By using a blanket it helps us to deal with our lower nightly core body temperatures. It also increases the serotonin and melatonin levels in our brain which helps relax us and fall asleep. Are you a hot sleeper? At some points while sleeping you feel too warm. Did you know that even if you are a hot sleeper you should still sleep with a blanket? Sleep experts and scientists have said that it has been ingrained in us practically since birth that most of us associate blankets with comfort, relaxation, bedtime, and sleeping. Do you find that you fall asleep faster when you are covered compared to being uncovered? If you are like me and you need something covering you in order to fall asleep you are in good company. Registered nurse Terry Cralle says sleeping while covered is in our brains from infancy, and therefore, it serves as a cue that it is time to sleep.  Okay here’s some facts. That familiar feeling of being “tucked in” there’s also...

KDTime: Am I a 2000s Kid?

Image
"Oh, well imagine As I'm pacing the pews in a church corridor And I can't help but to hear No, I can't help but to hear an exchanging of words" If you could tell the name of this song by just these lyrics I know you are a 2000s kid. The 2000s was a wild time to be alive. Everyone brags about the 90s myself included, but the 2000s brought so many things including really great music. So much great music that I challenged myself to figure out song lyrics from certain 2000s hits. 2000-2010 where I spent my pre-teen to full teenage years. Most of the music was listened to on the radios and then slowly on YouTube and then on other internet websites. I experienced a lot in my teen years but one thing is for sure I got through it with music. Listening to lyrics that somehow seemed to express my exact feelings at the time. Songs like "Unwritten" by Natasha Bedingfield, "Crazy in Love" by Beyoncé, "How you Remind Me" by Nickelback, "Yeah...

KDTime: Oh the Places You'll Go

Image
Thirty-One I like traveling and seeing new places. It's definitely interesting to go places you have never been and there's also a familiarity to places that you have been too before. New or Old you tend to have a great time being there. Especially when you go with friends and sometimes family. In this episode, KDTime was asked about vacations and travel. Where I wanted to go and what I wanted to do. I would love to go anywhere around the world to be honest but if I had to choose. I actually chose this island in Oceania. It's a Polynesian island called Tuvalu and from the pictures and the research it looks like an amazing little spot where not many people tend to visit. Almost as though it's secluded and perfect really. Once a place is well known for the area things tend to be overpopulated and overwhelming. I would love to go to JAPAN, but so many people want to go there and so many people are there right now. I would feel right at home in a way because living in New Y...
