Jonah and I tackled movies from 2013 that we deemed were our top ten movies. On one hand these we didn't see every single movie from that year, but when we thought about the movies that came to light during we knew which ones stuck out to us 10 years later.
The year 2013 was a pivotal one in cinema, with a slew of groundbreaking films that continue to influence the industry today. From thought-provoking dramas to pulse-pounding blockbusters, the top ten movies of 2013 left an indelible mark on audiences and filmmakers alike. "Gravity" revolutionized the way filmmakers approached visual effects, immersing viewers in the vastness of space like never before. Meanwhile, "12 Years a Slave" tackled themes of race and identity with unflinching honesty, sparking important conversations about systemic injustice.
Other notable films of 2013, such as "The Wolf of Wall Street" and "American Hustle," redefined the crime genre with their sharp wit and larger-than-life characters. "Frozen" captured the hearts of audiences worldwide with its unforgettable music and empowering message of self-discovery. Meanwhile, "Her" offered a poignant exploration of love and loneliness in the digital age, foreshadowing the growing impact of technology on human relationships. These films, among others, continue to serve as touchstones for contemporary filmmakers, inspiring them to push boundaries and explore new storytelling techniques. As the cinematic landscape evolves, the legacy of these groundbreaking movies remains a testament to the power of storytelling to inspire, provoke, and entertain.
While the movies mentioned here are of the real top ten movies from 2013 I wanted to point out that even still, I had a different outlook on the movies that impacted me and my life 10 years ago. Movies that I can still watch and it made a difference. These were essentially my favorite movies from that year.
Here's my list of my top ten movies of 2013:

What a journey it must be to live in another country and adapt. I've done a missions trip with my church before but I have never lived in another country while also trying to spread the good news of God. I think the most important things to note about this life is that you have to Shine your light as brightly as you can even if you aren't preaching to people every day.
Some things I've learned through talking with Rachel and her experience. Life as a missionary in Malawi, Africa, unfolds as a profound journey of cultural immersion, spiritual growth, and service to others. From the moment one arrives in this vibrant nation, the kaleidoscope of colors, sounds, and smells immediately envelops the senses, offering a rich tapestry of experiences unlike any other. In the bustling cities and remote villages alike, missionaries find themselves welcomed with open arms by communities eager to share their traditions, stories, and way of life.
Yet, amid the beauty and warmth of Malawi's people lies the harsh reality of poverty and hardship. As missionaries navigate the challenges of daily life, they witness firsthand the resilience and strength of those they've come to serve. With every action taken by the good works of these folks it is infused with a deep sense of purpose and compassion. Through their dedication and commitment, missionaries become catalysts for positive change, helping to uplift individuals and communities toward a brighter future.
However, life in Malawi as a missionary also brings moments of introspection and personal growth. Living in a land where material possessions often take a backseat to human connection and spiritual fulfillment, missionaries learn valuable lessons about the true meaning of abundance and gratitude. They forge deep bonds with fellow missionaries and locals alike, forming a global family united by a shared vision of hope and service. Despite the challenges and sacrifices, the transformative impact of their time in Malawi leaves an indelible mark on their hearts and souls, inspiring a lifelong commitment to making a difference in the world.
Rachel went and did some beautiful work by helping a coffee business off the ground and simply immersing herself in the community around her. She learned so much about what it meant to truly serve others with her gifts of dance and teaching. It's funny because the plans for her to go to Africa changed so much after she officially made the decision to go and Covid-19 did her no favors but it didn't deter her from marching on and living out a dream of a lifetime.
If you are curious about being a missionary and would like to make a difference in someone else's life. Reach out to your local church or a church you know of that participates in missionary work. There are plenty of outlets you can choose from. Also, remember you do not have to go outside of the country to be a missionary; you can do missionary work in your very own country. All people every where could use a helping hand especially one that's willing to do so.
If you could become a missionary where would you go? What would you like to do? Leave a comment and let's talk about it!
