KDTime: Talk with Rachel!

Episode 83

What a journey it must be to live in another country and adapt. I've done a missions trip with my church before but I have never lived in another country while also trying to spread the good news of God. I think the most important things to note about this life is that you have to Shine your light as brightly as you can even if you aren't preaching to people every day.

Some things I've learned through talking with Rachel and her experience. Life as a missionary in Malawi, Africa, unfolds as a profound journey of cultural immersion, spiritual growth, and service to others. From the moment one arrives in this vibrant nation, the kaleidoscope of colors, sounds, and smells immediately envelops the senses, offering a rich tapestry of experiences unlike any other. In the bustling cities and remote villages alike, missionaries find themselves welcomed with open arms by communities eager to share their traditions, stories, and way of life.

Yet, amid the beauty and warmth of Malawi's people lies the harsh reality of poverty and hardship. As missionaries navigate the challenges of daily life, they witness firsthand the resilience and strength of those they've come to serve. With every action taken by the good works of these folks it is infused with a deep sense of purpose and compassion. Through their dedication and commitment, missionaries become catalysts for positive change, helping to uplift individuals and communities toward a brighter future.

However, life in Malawi as a missionary also brings moments of introspection and personal growth. Living in a land where material possessions often take a backseat to human connection and spiritual fulfillment, missionaries learn valuable lessons about the true meaning of abundance and gratitude. They forge deep bonds with fellow missionaries and locals alike, forming a global family united by a shared vision of hope and service. Despite the challenges and sacrifices, the transformative impact of their time in Malawi leaves an indelible mark on their hearts and souls, inspiring a lifelong commitment to making a difference in the world.

Rachel went and did some beautiful work by helping a coffee business off the ground and simply immersing herself in the community around her. She learned so much about what it meant to truly serve others with her gifts of dance and teaching. It's funny because the plans for her to go to Africa changed so much after she officially made the decision to go and Covid-19 did her no favors but it didn't deter her from marching on and living out a dream of a lifetime.

If you are curious about being a missionary and would like to make a difference in someone else's life. Reach out to your local church or a church you know of that participates in missionary work. There are plenty of outlets you can choose from. Also, remember you do not have to go outside of the country to be a missionary; you can do missionary work in your very own country. All people every where could use a helping hand especially one that's willing to do so.

If you could become a missionary where would you go? What would you like to do? Leave a comment and let's talk about it!
