In the midst of a pandemic. I decided to talk about being essential and how New York is essential. Especially New York City. In this third episode, a shout to all the workers came about and it was very clear that deserved high praise for what they do everyday.
This episode was created around Memorial Day Weekend and while a lot of people stayed home, many people took the opportunity to enjoy the weekend the same way the would have if the pandemic didn't happen. It's all about being essential and what that means in the grand scheme of things. I talk about NYC Commuters and I give a couple stories of some experiences I had on the MTA. I also talk about enjoying the little things while working at an office, and working in Manhattan.
Here's an excerpt from the episode:
"NYC commuters- for the most part people pretty much keep their head down and go about their business but other times you see the most interesting events happen on a train ride. For example I saw a bunch of men and women dressed in all white and it would seem like it was a wedding convention but in reality it was for a show in the park. The confusion on my face said everything. Also I had to deal with a very aggressive person who sat next to me. She kept moving and intentionally trying to make room for herself. This smaller than me lady couldn’t stop fidgeting and it was beyond frustrating but I didn’t say anything nor did I retaliate. Luckily I wasn’t on the ride long enough because her head would’ve been knocked upside the pole if I stayed on the train longer. Mind you I was sitting in the 3 seat first so I had every right to whoop her ass, if I wanted too. But y’all I’m blessed and didn’t want to end up on world star or any social media where things could be spun in the wrong direction.
Bus drivers- if I were one I just wonder how miserable I’d truly be. Some just have those attitudes especially in the morning. Like we get it the rush hours aren’t the best, but everyone is trying to get to work the only obvious difference is that the driver is already doing his job. They don’t have to worry about missing transfers. They don’t have to rush to get to school or work on time. They aren’t “late” ya know but yet they have crazy attitudes. Leave that at the door. It makes you wonder “do they appreciate when we give thanks”"
Being born and raised in NYC there a lot of stories that come to mind that have made me laugh, cry, or even get angry. But I absolutely LOVE living here! To quote the Schuyler Sisters (from Hamilton), "It's the GREATEST City in the World!"
